UNAVCO offers a flat dollar amount to defray the cost of medical insurance. These plans offer you the benefit of choosing the type of coverage that is best for you and your family. The monthly amount provided is based upon coverage:
This typically covers 50%-100% of premiums for medical, depending upon the plan chosen and employee location.
A variety of PPO (Preferred Provider Organization), ACO (Accountable Care Organization), HMO (Health Maintenance Organization), EPO (Exclusive Provider Organizations), HDHP (High Deductible Health Plans) with HSA (Health Spending Account) option, and Indemnity plans are available to choose from depending upon your location. Medical insurance carriers include Aetna, Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente.
A variety of PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) and EPP (Exclusive Provider Plan) plans are available. Carriers include Aetna, Delta Dental, Guardian, and MetLife.
Vision insurance is offered through Aetna and VSP (Vision Service Plan) at all locations. Co-pays range from $10-$25 per person. Exams and materials can be acquired every 12 months.
Participants contribute up to $2,650 each year to a Health Care and up to $5,000 per household for Dependent Care FSA, allowing them to pay for eligible health care and dependent day care expenses on a pre-tax basis. The FSA year is offset and goes October 1st – September 30th.
A Wage Works flex spending account (for parking and public transportation) is also available.
Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance are provided at no cost to employees through MetLife. This benefit is one time the annual salary for employees. Employees may choose to apply for and purchase optional supplemental life or ADD insurance for themselves and/or dependents through MetLife. The cost of optional plans is paid through payroll deduction.
Short and Long-term disability insurance is provided at no cost to employees through MetLife. The benefit is 60% of salary up to a maximum of $10,000 per month.
Full-time employees accrue PTO as follows:
Part-time regular employees accrue PTO in proportion to their appointments.
Ten paid holidays are observed each year. Part-time employees scheduled to work on a paid holiday receive holiday pay in proportion to their appointments. Dates may vary:
UNAVCO’s rich retirement plan is offered through TIAA. All non-student employees must participate in the plan. UNAVCO contributes 10% of an employee’s base salary and the employee contributes a mandatory 5% of base salary. All contributions are made with pre-tax dollars. Employees may elect to make additional voluntary contributions up to the IRS-allowed limit through pre-tax payroll deduction. There is also a Roth option available for your retirement account; post-tax deductions now, tax-free distributions later.
